New Widget for iOS 17

We're excited to introduce a new feature in our latest update for iOS 17 users! Say hello to our brand-new interactive widget that brings the power of tracker blocking right to your iOS 17 home screen.

With this widget, you can now effortlessly monitor 1Blocker's performance and take control of in-app trackers, all without even opening the app. Curious about how many pesky trackers we've stopped today? The widget provides you with blocking stats, so you can see just how many trackers were blocked, giving you peace of mind about your privacy. Plus, we added the ability to toggle blocking for in-app trackers directly from the widget.

Apple announced iOS 17 will be available for users to download on September 18. Once you update to iOS 17, you will find our new widget there.

Update 1Blocker to stay in control of your online privacy and enjoy a more streamlined user experience. We're committed to helping you make the most of your digital world while keeping the trackers at bay. Thank you for choosing 1Blocker for your ad and tracker-blocking needs!

Meet New iOS 16 Shortcuts

We're excited to introduce our new shortcuts for iOS 16. You can now set up powerful workflows with our Firewall actions. Currently, we support three types of actions:

  • Pause Firewall for 5 or 30 minutes
  • Set Firewall on or off
  • Toggle Firewall

It's possible to integrate our Firewall actions into your custom shortcuts.

You can also create Personal Automations in the Shortcuts app to control Firewall when some specific event happens. For example:

  • Pause Firewall for 5 minutes when "Mail" is opened
  • Turn Firewall on when connected to public Wi-Fi
  • Turn Firewall off when connected to home Wi-Fi

Read more about these new shortcuts in our guide.

Feel free to send us your feedback via email or Twitter.

Block YouTube Ads in Safari

1Blocker releases a new web extension that can block ads on YouTube in Safari on both iOS and macOS.

Our new web extension, called 1Blocker Scripts, is optional, has no interface, and its only purpose is to perform advanced content blocking that the original Safari Content Blocker API doesn't provide. We perform the blocking by running our JavaScript code that filters content on some websites with hard-to-block ads.

We are starting with blocking ads on YouTube, and we will expand the extension’s functionality over time.

Block YouTube Ads for Free

With 1Blocker, you can block YouTube ads for free. We won’t charge you extra to activate our advanced content blocking with the new 1Blocker Scripts extension.

The free version of 1Blocker lets you enable one category (e.g. Block Ads, Block Trackers, Block Adult Sites, etc.) So, if you haven’t upgraded to premium yet, you can turn on the Block Ads setting in 1Blocker and you will be all set.

If you want to enable multiple categories, for example have both Block Ads and Block Trackers enabled, you’ll need to purchase premium. Our premium comes with a 14-day free trial, so you can try it out and see for yourself whether you find it useful for your workflow.

How to Enable the New 1Blocker Scripts Extension

On iOS 15 and up, make sure you have 1Blocker 5.0 or newer. Then open Safari → tap "aA" → Manage Extensions. Make sure to give it access to websites. Alternatively, go to the Settings app → Safari → Extensions → Scroll to the bottom → 1Blocker Scripts.

On macOS 10.15.6 and up, make sure you have 1Blocker 4.0 or newer. Then open Safari preferences → Extensions → 1Blocker Scripts. Make sure to give access to all sites (or at least to youtube.com).

The web extension API is very powerful, and we are excited about what we can build now. Stay tuned for future updates.

1Blocker 4.0: Now with In-App Tracker Blocking

Today we are releasing 1Blocker 4.0, a major update that introduces in-app tracker blocking and the new privacy protection overview tab.

Firewall is a new feature that allows you to protect your privacy not only in Safari but in all apps on your iOS device. It can automatically block more than 9,200 in-app trackers, including spy pixels in emails, behavior measurement trackers, and other analytics services.

What makes our approach different is that 1Blocker performs all the blocking on your device only and doesn’t collect any of your data. Your internet traffic is not routed through any servers. That makes our solution super fast, and you won’t notice any slowdowns.

Firewall runs in a network extension on iOS and acts as a local proxy or gateway between you and the internet. When it sees a request is being sent to a block-listed host, the extension just drops the connection. Other requests stay untouched and work just like before.

Meet Universal Purchase & Family Sharing

We are excited to tell you that we’ve added support for native Universal Purchase and Family Sharing for all of our customers.

To make it work, though, we had to re-release our Mac app because of some App Store constraints. It’s what Apple recommends developers to do.

Is the new Mac app free for you?

Yes. If you already have an active 1Blocker subscription or purchased Lifetime, you don’t need to pay again.

The only step most of our Mac customers need to take to enjoy Family Sharing and Universal Purchase across all platforms, is to download the new Mac app, and you are all set. It will sync your current subscriber status and automatically unlock the features you paid for.

Tim Cook on Privacy

Apple CEO Tim Cook at the Computers, Privacy & Data Protection conference last week:

The reality is that there is an interconnected ecosystem of companies and data brokers, fake news providers, division boosters, trackers, and those interested in making easy money with more presence than ever before in our lives.

And it is evident how much it degrades our fundamental right to privacy and, ultimately, the social fabric.

I have said it before: if we accept as a normal and inevitable fact that everything in our lives can be added and sold, then we lose much more than data. We lose the freedom to be human.

However, we are also in a time of hope, reflection, and transformation. Many of you have made our most tangible advances possible.

20,000 Premium Customers

This week we celebrate 🎉 a significant milestone of 20,000 active subscriptions to our Premium service. Over 20,000 people have unlocked robust privacy protections against web trackers and obtrusive ads.

Our indie team at 1Blocker is incredibly thankful to every one of you for your continuous support of our efforts and on-going development. Without you, we wouldn't be where we are. We will never take an investment nor participate in questionable programs like “Acceptable Ads.” We put the customer’s needs first and strive to do what’s right.

Our goal has always been to build a sustainable and independent business that makes people’s lives better. We fight for your privacy online and make browsing the internet more enjoyable; without being distracted by unnecessary popups that try to grab your attention.

Although we have been around since 2015, this is just the beginning! We have an exciting roadmap 🚀. Something cool has been secretly cooking for a while now. Stay tuned!
